2022 Men's Soccer Preview

Top of the ECC in 2021

The Lions won their second East Coast Conference title in 2021. A veteran team that featured 15 upperclassmen, Molloy put together a nine-win campaign, including a 5-2-2 conference slate that earned them the third-seed in the ECC Championship. The Lions defeated the second-seeded University if the District of Columbia in penalty kicks to advance to the championship game. The title once again came down to the wire, but Molloy topped top-seeded Saint Thomas Aquinas College in penalty kicks to capture the program's first title since 2008.

Molloy garnered four All-Conference selections in graduate student Peter MeyerGenarro VilardiNick Conklu and Jesse Schleeper.

Molloy will return 18 student-athletes from last year's championship roster. That experience, paired with a crop of new talent, primes the Lions as a top contender in the East Coast Conference in 2022.

Defending the Goal

Molloy is led by East Coast Conference Preseason Defensive Player of the Year Orlando Zambrano Jr. The senior was one of three players to have appeared and started in all 21 contests a season ago. The backline captain recorded 1,997 minutes of action and one assist in 2021.

Jonas Jacobsen returns as a leader in the defensive third. The junior started and played in 20 games in the 2021 campaign while dishing out two assists.

Junior Danny Muir looks to continue his strong presence on the backline in 2022. The Massapequa native netted two goals and handed out one assist last season while being a part of a defensive core that put together six shutouts.

Graduate student Matthais Adamek who transferred from Adelphi, and junior Ryan Dobson who comes to Molloy from Liverpool, England will help the Lions in the defensive third.

Graduate student Nicolay Kutzop, sophomore Kevin Graca, freshmen Adam Lesniewski, and Gus Daskalakis look to make a difference in their first season in Rockville Centre.

All-ECC Third Team selection Nick Conklu returns to goal for Molloy in 2022. In 17 games played a season ago, the graduate student collected 92 saves, earned seven wins, and put together a 1.06 goals-against average a season ago.

In the Middle

Redshirt senior Ryan Essigman who saw 635 minutes of action, and junior Andy Blanco (two assists) spearhead the midfield in 2022.

Junior Joe Leon, sophomores Matt Laya-Vetell, Connor Gervasi, Nick Leon, Ollie Murch, and Javier Caceres look to build on their 2021 campaigns this season.

Junior Edwin Castellon who transferred from Nassau Community College, and Sophomore Sean Salgueiro, who transferred from Manhattan look to bring a spark to the midfield.

Sophomore Sebastian Koch and freshman Matt Star add depth to the unit in their first season at Molloy.

The Offensive Third

Gio Fabiano returns in 2022. The sophomore tallied two goals a season ago.

Senior J.P. Rodriguez and sophomore Chris Camacho join Fabiano up front in their second year sporting the Molloy colors.

Freshmen Michael Hofmann, Devon Seneca, and Tommy Baratta come in this season looking to add fury to the Lions' attack.

The Lions begin the season Thursday, August 25 as they travel to Waltham, Massachusetts to take on Bentley at 3:30 p.m.
