ECC Men’s Soccer Final Preview: #1 Molloy vs. #3 Mercy

Rockville Centre, N.Y. – The top-seeded Molloy men's soccer team takes on the third-seeded Mercy College Mavericks in the ECC Final Sunday, November 6 at 12:00 p.m. at John A. Darcy Field. 
 
On the Lions: 
  • Molloy finished the regular season 6-0-2 in East Coast Conference Play to earn the Regular Season Championship for the first time in program history. They enter the final 8-4-7 overall.
  • Graduate student Nick Conklu was named ECC Co-Goalkeeper of the Year
  • The cardinal and white had seven All-ECC honorees. Conklu, juniors Jonas Jacobsen, and Ryan Dobson, and sophomores Ollie Murch, and Gio Fabiano earned All-ECC First Team Honors. Senior Orlando Zambrano Jr. and junior Danny Muir were named to the Third Team.
  • Nick Conklu is second in the conference in second goals-against average (0.97), third in shutouts (5), and fifth in goals against (16) and save percentage (.779).
  • Fabiano leads the offense with 18 points (nine goals).
  • Junior Ryan Dobson is second on the team with seven goals.
  • Junior Danny Muir paces the squad with six assists.
Against the Mavericks:
  • Molloy hosted the then #23 ranked Mercy Mavericks on September 24. The Lions defeated the Mavericks, 2-1.
  • Dobson netted the game-winning goal in the 89th minute, and Conklu made four saves. 
Recapping the Semifinal:
  • The Lions and the fourth-seeded Roberts Wesleyan came from behind to draw with the Redhawks 3-3. Molloy triumphed in penalty kicks, 5-4, to move onto the ECC Final.
  • Graduate student Nicolay Kutzop and Dobson netted goals in the final 15 minutes of regulation to force overtime.
  • Senior J.P. Rodriguez netted a goal in the 109th minute to send the game to penalty kicks. 
  • Senior Orlando Zambrano Jr. netted the game-winning penalty kick in the fifth round. 
Playoff History against the Mavericks:
  • This is the second meeting all-time in the ECC Championship between the two programs. 
  • The last meeting came in the ECC Semifinal on November 13, 2019 where the Lions fell to the Mavericks, 1-0.
Scouting Mercy:
  • The Mavericks finished the season 4-1-3 in conference play and enter the final 12-2-4 overall.
  • Mercy is currently fourth in the East Super Regional Rankings.
  • The Mavericks defeated Queens, 3-2, in overtime Thursday, November 3 in the ECC Semifinal to clinch a spot in the ECC Final.
  • Vasco Baptista leads the team with 15 points (four goals and seven assists), while Luis Silva paces the offense with six goals.
  • Molloy is 8-11-2 all-time against Mercy.
