Outdoor Track and Field Competes at Wilton Wright Invite

New Haven, Conn. - The men's and women's outdoor track and field teams returned to action this weekend at the Wilton Wright Invitational, hosted by Southern Connecticut State University. 

The women's team saw a third-place finish from junior Megan Sohl in the 800-meter race, finishing with a time of 2:31.39. In the field events, senior Faith Rousseau placed fourth in both the javelin (31.51 meters) and shot put (11.15 meters) while freshman Isabella Fortaleza had a new personal-best leap in the pole vault at 3.05 meters, good for fifth-place.

Freshman Peter Bagattine highlighted the performances from the men's squad, winning the 5,000-meter race with a time of 15:48.51. The Lions took the top-three positions in the race with juniors Matt Floyd (15:49.90) and Eric Palencia (15:53.28) following Bagattine.

Junior Eric Anderson placed second in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 57.51. Freshman Jurrel Hall placed second in the triple jump (13.75 meters) and third in the high jump (1.85 meters). Senior Gianni Macchio ran a time of 10.99 in the 100-meter race, finishing third. Sophomore Christian Canela's time of 51.18 earned him third in the 400-meter race.

The Lions' squads will split up in a busy weekend next weekend. Distance runners for both the men's and women's teams will be at the Silfen Invite on Friday (Apr. 12) in New London, Conn.  The following day, sprinters will appear at both the TCNJ Invite in Ewing, N.J. and the Larry Ellis Invite in Princeton, N.J.
