Rochester, N.Y. - The men's and women's outdoor track and field programs competed at the 2023 East Coast Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships earlier today at Roberts Wesleyan University. The women's team placed fourth overall while the men's team ended the day in third-place. The programs saw four new program-records established, won finished first in six events, and ran to All-Conference performances in 23 events.
The day began on a positive note with sophomore
Eric Anderson being awarded the league's Elite 19 Award for having the highest grade point average at the championship as an education major.
Men's Outdoor Track and Field
- Anderson beat his own 400-meter hurdle record from earlier in the season, running a time of 55.87 seconds for first-place and All-ECC First Team recognition.
- Junior Schnyder Germain won the 400-meter with a new program-record time of 49.64 seconds for All-ECC First Team.
- Senior Gianni Macchio set a program-record in the 100-meter race with a time of 10.88 seconds and won the 200-meter race at 22.09 seconds. Macchio added a second-place finish in the long jump at 6.33 meters for his third All-ECC First Team performance of the day.Â
- The 4x100-meter relay team of freshmen Christian Canela and Jason Ferguson and seniors Juan Arango and Philip Canelo won the event with a time of 43.40 seconds. Arango also added another First Team event in both the 200-meter (22.24) and 400-meter (51.14), placing second in both races.
- The men's event winners was rounded out by senior Sean Lenahan in the javelin throw with a distance of 44.94 meters for All-ECC First Team.
- The Lions also saw All-Conference showings from freshman Eric Palencia in the 10,000-meter with a personal best time of 33:17.95 (First Team), sophomore Frank Ferrante in the steeplechase with a personal best time of 10:18.44 (Second Team), sophomore Aiden Watson in the 1,500-meter with a personal best time of 4:04.23 (Second Team), freshman Christian Canela in the 400-meter (51.81, Second Team), freshman Jason Ferguson in the long jump (6.33m, Second Team), and the 4x800-meter relay team of sophomore Sean Wilde, freshman James Nichol, junior Schnyder Germain, and sophomore Aiden Watson (8:19.68, Second Team).
Women's Outdoor Track and Field
- Freshman Kathleen Healy set a new program-record in the steeplechase, winning the race for the second-straight week with a time of 12:02.50 for All-ECC First Team.
- Sophomore Faith Rousseau won the javelin throw with a distance of 33.21 meters for a First Team nod. She also earned Second Team recognition in the high jump (1.55 meters, Second Team) and shot put (10.87 meters, Second Team, personal best).
- Senior Jenna Piller ran to a second-place, personal best time of 13.42 seconds in the 100-meter for All-ECC First Team.
- The women's All-Conference performances were rounded out by senior Kristi Ackerina in the 5000-meter (18:54.75, Second Team), sophomore Samantha Latorre in the 100-meter hurdles (1:04.08, Second Team), and the 4x100-meter team of Piller, freshmen Alaysia Cobb-Rountree and Jadalyn Rodriguez, and sophomore Christina Hillery (50.88, Second Team).
