Senior Spotlight: Women's Rugby

4/28/2020 11:15:00 AM

Each year, the Molloy Department of Athletics holds its Maroon and White Night, an evening dedicated to recognizing the athletic and academic accomplishments of its student-athletes and serves as a last get-together for all, especially the senior class, before graduation. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event is unable to take place this year. In its place, the Department of Athletics will be highlighting the Class of 2020 seniors in a "Senior Spotlight" series.

Each of the seniors were asked about their Molloy experience and what they look forward to in their professional careers. Their Q&A can be found below:

Madison Howell
What was your favorite memory during your time in maroon and white?
Our game against Sacred Heart in the 2018 season. We had the home field advantage and the crowd cheering effortlessly for us. It was homecoming weekend and was just so positive. Although we didn't come out on top, we held our own and I was so proud of everyone.

Who was your favorite professor and what was your favorite class?
My favorite professor was Eileen Shah. She was my 209 professor for a full year. She believed in me more than anyone during the "hell semester" of nursing and was encouraging and helpful but also made me work hard for each grade the entire time.
My favrite class was OB with Dr. Alicia Stone. She made the class so fun and I fell in love with OB nursing.

Who are the people you feel had the most impact on you in your time at Molloy and why?
Athletics as a whole, they taught me I could have fun but also have a good work ethic. My coach, Mel, because she helped me grow into the player and person that I have become. All of my professors, good and bad, because they showed me how to act or how not to act. And my family and friends because they kept pushing me through every exam, assignment, or skills test.

What advice would you give to yourself as a freshman?
Don't give up! It will get hard and you'll have to put in extra time on the field and in the classroom, but it is so worth it. Also, all of the Power Point presentations are on Canvas, so look at them during class. (I didn't know that was a thing my freshman year!)

What are your plans after graduation?
I plan on being a nurse on a maternity unit on Long Island or in the city.
