Douglasville, Pa. - The women's bowling team hosted the first day of its Bowl for a Cure Tournament this afternoon, featuring five traditional formatted matches. The maroon and white opened the tournament with a 3-2 record.
In the first match, the Lions topped Felician University, 919-822 featuring 223 points from sophomore
Goldera Surles and 180 pins from sophomore
Amanda Kreush. Kreush knocked down another 193 pins to lead the maroon and white against #10 Chestnut Hill College, but the Griffins topped Molloy by just nine pins, 894-885. The keglers faced another ranked team in #13 Mount St. Mary, falling 970-896, despite 218 pins from junior
Christie Warmingham. The afternoon continued with a 947-902 victory over Coppin State, with Surles (219) and senior
Carly Licht (213) each topping 200 pins. In the final match of the day, the Lions had a redemption performance against #10 Chestnut Hill by topping the Griffins, 991-943. Licht threw a 234 in the effort paired with 216 pins from Surles.
In junior varsity action, Molloy swept Kutztown, 5-0. Sophomores
Colleen Kingsepp and
Allison Burfeindt and senior
Alyssa Doto earned spots on the All-Tournament team.
The action will continue tomorrow as the teams move to the Baker portion of the event.
