Rockville Centre, N.Y. – Baseball Alum and current pitching coach
Alex Brosnan was elected into the Long Island Flag Football Hall of Fame on January 6.
"Getting inducted into the Hall of Fame was awesome," Brosnan said. "It was totally unexpected, which was bittersweet, but still a really great experience. Being able to be surrounded by my teammates when it happened made it even better. Those guys are the reason I got inducted."
Brosnan, who served as the Lions' captain and was named to the All-East Coast Conference Second Team in 2015, started playing flag football when he was 20. In that time, he has won 28 titles in the different leagues he participates in. The Farmingdale, N.Y. native credits his time with the maroon and white for helping him after his collegiate career.
"Being a student-athlete at Molloy helped me in all aspects of my post college life," he said. "Learning how to compete day in and day out is something that sticks with me. Some of my best friends from my time at Molloy are some of my best players, so without Molloy I wouldn't have met them."
The quarterback's favorite memory on the football field came in 2015 when he was just out of college.
"I've had so many great memories playing," said Brosnan, who plays with current assistant coach
Michael Cruz. "Winning our first money tournament in 2015 was great. We were very young and beat a team of ex professionals. It was an eye-opening moment that showed us, 'wow we can not only compete at this level, but win.'"
Brosnan, who finished his baseball career top-10 in the program's career complete games and ERA, first in single-season k/9, and second in single-season complete games, took the lessons he learned on the mound at Molloy and used them after graduation to become a top flag football player on Long Island.
