Seaford, N.Y. - The women's rugby team opened the 2019 campaign this afternoon against Colby Sawyer from Cedar Creek Park, falling 94-5. 


How it Happened

• Molloy's first try of the season came from sophomore captain Kaitlyn DeMaio with just under 21 minutes left to play in the first half. 
• The Lions won the scrum battle, topping the Chargers, 12-11. 
• Molloy was led defensively by junior Olivia Sturiano, who tallied seven tackles.
• Seniors Maddie Howell and Kaitlyn Snyder as well as sophomore Aubrey Kelley each made six tackles while senior Colleen Elliot, graduate student Keisha Hoskins, and DeMaio each made four. 

Coach's Comments
"We learned a lot today. We had 6 players play in their first game" explained head coach Melissa Olman. "Three players that stood out were Kaitlyn Snyder, Jen Hernandez, and Olivia Sturiano. Kaitlyn always looked like a threat to break the line with ball in hand and defensively she hit her tackles. Olivia and Kaitlyn worked well together in the backline connecting well on switches and passes. Jen was aggressive getting to rucks and showed us a lot of improvement since last season. Although this is not the result we wanted, spirits were high after the match. We look forward to growing over the season."
