Box Score 2 Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. - The softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader at Mercy College this afternoon. The Lions fell to 15-24 on the season and 5-9 in East Coast Conference play with the losses.
Game 1: Molloy 5, Mercy 6
- Molloy took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on three straight hits. A double from sophomore Courtney Greene set up singles from freshman Amanda King and senior Tara Byrnes, who drove in the first run of the game.Â
- The Mavericks evened the score with back-to-back doubles in the home half of the inning.
- The Lions plated two runs in the second inning on a sacrifice fly from sophomore Tonianne Larson and an ground out from senior Kaitlyn Snyder.
- The maroon and white led until the bottom of the fourth inning, where Mercy scored five runs on five hits to take a 6-3 lead.
- The bases were loaded for the Lions in the top of the seventh with no outs for Byrnes, who walked to bring Molloy within two, 6-4. The visitors came within one on a sacrifice fly by freshman Marissa Nicoletti, but were unable to overcome the deficit.
- King went 3-for-4 while Greene and sophomore Sarah Glaser each recorded two hits. Byrnes led with two RBI.
- Greene tossed 3.2 innings in the loss, striking out two. Senior Jenna Turato added two strikeouts in two innings of relief.Â
Game 2: Molloy 3, Mercy 4
- The maroon and white once again took a lead in the first inning, with King driving in Snyder on a double.Â
- The Mavericks, however, knotted the score with an RBI single in the bottom half of the inning.
- A triple to Glaser scored freshman Adriana Saab to put the Lions in front, 2-1.
- In her next at bat, Glaser gave Molloy a two-run advantage with an inside the park home run, the first homer of her career.
- Mercy knotted the score in the fifth inning, taking advantage of an error by the Molloy defense and a wild pitch.
- The game's deciding run came in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single up the middle.Â
- Turato fanned three batters in five innings in the loss.
- Glaser went 2-for-3 with the two RBI on the afternoon. King, Snyder, and freshman Alex Burns accounted for the other three hits for the Lions.Â
