Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The softball team wrapped up the 2026 season with a doubleheader split against the Saints of D'Youville University. After falling 5-3 in the opening game, the Lions rallied for a 4-3 victory in extra innings to end the season with a 17-33 record.
Before the game, the program celebrated the two members of its senior class,
Emily McGurk (criminal justice) and
Mae Savage (childhood education) in a pre-game ceremony.
Game One: D'Youville 5, Molloy 3
- A hit by pitch in the second inning put a runner on base for D'Youville's Gabby Moreno, who gave the visitors a 2-0 lead with a home run over the right field fence.
- In the third, a lead-off single from McGurk followed by a walk to redshirt sophomore Alexis Montgomery and a sacrifice bunt from Savage put two runners in scoring position. Freshman Alyssa Bueno got Molloy on the board with a RBI ground out before sophomore Megal Wegel tied the game with a single up the middle.
- Sophomore Casey Kissinger singled to left field in the fourth inning set Savage up for an RBI single to right field to put the Lions in front, 3-2.
- The lead did not last long as a walk to Danielle Fenlong and double from Frankie Morris put runners on for Annie Jorgenson, who tied the game with a sacrifice fly in the top of the fifth.
- In the sixth, a lead-off home run from Jorja Sandilands pushed the Saints in front, before Fenlong's single added an insurance run.
- Wegel and junior Stevie Dabbadie each singled in the bottom of the seventh, but the Lions were unable to plate a run.
- Dabbadie (3-for-4) led with three hits while Wegel (2-for-4) followed with two.
- Savage, Bueno and Wegel each drove in a run.
Game Two: Molloy 5, D'Youville 4 (8 Innings)
- Freshman Skyler Secondino worked out of trouble early as the Saints loaded the bases in the first inning with a double and two walks. The freshman picked up a strikeout to end the inning and keep the visitors off the board.
- D'Youville would break through in the third inning, however, taking advantage of a single, double, and then a sacrifice fly from Jorgenson to get on the board.
- It was Molloy's turn to load the bases in the fourth inning with a two-out walk to Secondino followed by singles from Kissinger and sophomore Gwen Woodsit. McGurk drove in the tying run with an infield single.
- The Saints would reclaim the lead in the sixth inning with Morris driving in two runs with a single through the left side, going ahead 3-1.
- Secondino led off the sixth with an infield single before walks to Woodsit and Kissinger once again loaded the bases for the Lions.
- McGurk tallied her second RBI of the afternoon with a sacrifice fly before Montgomery re-loaded the bases with a seven-pitch walk.
- Speed on the base paths from Kissinger and freshman Melina Ogando allowed the Lions to plate two runs on a wild pitch and a throwing error and take a 4-3 lead into the seventh inning.
- A double from Sandilands and sacrifice bunt from Isabella Mancino allowed Mikayla Hussar to tie the game with a sacrifice fly of her own.
- The Saints threatened to add an insurance run, but sophomore catcher Hannah Definis quickly tracked down a wild pitch in time to throw out the Saints' runner breaking for home to end the inning.
- A scoreless bottom of the seventh and top of the eighth turned the scorecard to the top of the line up for the Lions. Montgomery singled to left field to start the inning, before a walk to Savage and single from Bueno loaded the bases. Wegel's sacrifice fly to left field served as the game-winning RBI for the Lions, ending the season on a high note.
- Secondino and Woodsit each went 2-for-3 while McGurk led with two RBI.
- Secondino struck out three, allowing just one earned run, to earn her eighth win.
