Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The volleyball team will face the University of Bridgeport this evening to determine the winner of the 2019 East Coast Conference Volleyball Championship. This will be Molloy's third time in as many seasons competing in the title game while Bridgeport returns to the contest for the first time since the 2015 season.
Concerning the Lions
- Molloy's three-set victory over #4 Mercy was the team's 18th sweep of the season.
- The Lions were led by redshirt senior Carly Banks, who tallied 13 kills in the victory. Defensively, sophomore Kathleen Doherty led with 17 assists while freshman and Rookie of the Year Chye Davis recorded three blocks.
- The maroon and white won both contests against the Purple Knights in the regular season, 3-0 and then 3-2. In the most recent contest, junior Kacey Affrunti recorded 21 kills while Davis put up a career-high eight blocks. Senior Hailey Wehr joined Affrunti in double digits with 14 kills while senior Jessica Fischetti tallied a career-high 32 digs, one of four Lions to reach double digits.Â
- The last time Molloy competed for the East Coast Conference title, the team fell to top-seeded Daemen College, 3-1. The last time the Lions hosted the tournament, the team took home its first-ever title in a 3-2 thriller over New York Institute of Technology.
Scouting the Purple Knights
- This is Bridgeport's 17th-straight time making the postseason, topping any other team in the league.Â
- The Purple Knights have taken home five ECC titles, most recently besting NYIT 3-1 in 2015.Â
- UB is led by Amanda Hennemann with 310 kills while Breanna Jones tops the squad with 401 digs.Â
- In the team's semifinal match with #3 Daemen, Amanda Keller (12) and Morgan Knight (11) each finished with double digit kills while Hennemann tallied 21 digs. The Purple Knights recorded 19 blocks against the Wildcats, including five from both Keller and Emily Burford.Â
- Hennemann recorded a double-double the last time the Purple Knights faced the Lions, tallying 16 kills to go with 11 digs. Bridgeport saw three reach double digit kills while four recorded double digit digs, including 21 from Jones.Â
