Wallingford, Conn. (Oct. 22, 2017) – In arguably the best tournament appearance in the three-year history of the women's bowling program at Molloy, the Lions took home a third-place finish at the Sacred Heart University Bowl for a Cure Invitational. Along the way, the maroon and white downed three top-ten NTCA ranked opponents en route to a 3-2 performance on the afternoon. It is the first time that the team has finished over .500 in an NCAA tournament style competition. The team's total pinfall, 5089, is also a program best. Molloy now sits at 4-6 on the season.
The Lions started the day against #7 Caldwell University, taking a 79-pin victory, 1030-951, on outstanding performances from sophomores
Marisa Clinton (Staten Island, N.Y.) (191),
Kayla Dobrinski (Sloatsburg, N.Y.) (202),
Jennifer Bisogno (Toms River, N.J.) (235), and
Carly Licht (Bethpage, N.Y.) (236).
Against fifth-ranked Franklin Pierce University, Molloy unfeathered the Ravens, 1016-939. Bisogno (259) and Licht (236) once again led the way for the Lions, while freshman
Mackenzie Wagner (Syosset, N.Y.) bowled a 190 in the appearance.
Molloy faced off against #4 Adelphi University next. Despite three 200+ pin performances (Wagner, 224; Licht 223; Bisogno 208), the fire power of the Panthers was just too strong. The team fell 1134-986. The Lions also fell to the host school, Sacred Heart, 1159-1016. Freshman
Zoey Witter bowled a 225 in the loss.
The Lions got back in the win column in the final match of the day, defeating #9 Felician University, 1032-967. The performance, spearheaded by an all-time freshman high game of 256 from Witter, is the highest match total in the program's history. Fellow freshman
Christie Warmingham (Farmingdale, N.Y.) bowled a 236 for the keglers in the victory as well.
In individual honors, Licht was named to the All-Tournament team, totaling 1112 pins (222.40 average), featuring back-to-back games of 236. In singles play, the sophomore advanced to the quarterfinals before falling by just two pins, 237-235.
Molloy returns to action on Saturday (Oct. 28) at the Stevens Institute of Technology Invitational in Oakland, N.J.
