10/21/2017 5:04:00 PM

Seaford, N.Y. (Oct. 21, 2017) – Sabrina Rodriguez (Norwalk, Conn.), one of five seniors honored in a pre-game ceremony, tallied a career-high six tries in women's rugby's 71-34 victory over Mount St. Mary's University at Cedar Creek Park. The victory sets the team at 4-2-1 headed into the final two games of the season, both on the road, giving the team a home record of 3-1 in 2017.

The Mount would get on the board first, scoring a try in the first two minutes of play. From there, however, Molloy dominated the opening frame. Rodriguez scored twice paired with tries from fellow senior Caroline Nickels (Floral Park, N.Y.) and sophomore Emma Haedrich (West Islip, N.Y.). Senior Nizabeta Deljanin (Westbury, N.Y.) added one conversion to set the score at 22-10 after 20 minutes of play.

The Lions added three more tries in the second frame, two from senior Alissa Guerra (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) and one from Rodriguez. The teams went into halftime with the score 37-22 in favor of Molloy.

Deljanin added her second conversion of the day after a try from Rodriguez in the third quarter, but the Mount tallied seven points of its own to make it 44-29 headed into the final frame of action.

Molloy scored three straight tries (two from Rodriguez, one from Nickels) in the first 10 minute of the fourth quarter. A try by Mount St. Mary's made it 61-34 with just over five minutes to play. Nickels and Rodriguez tallied their final tries of the game in the final 90 seconds, setting the final score at 71-34.

Rodriguez also led the team in tackles, with 12 while Deljanin tallied 10.

The team returns on Saturday (Oct. 28) as they head to Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine. Kickoff is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
