Softball Splits Series with Franklin Pierce

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Melbourne, Fla. - The Lions rallied for a split of a doubleheader against Franklin Pierce this afternoon from the USSSA Space Coast Games. Headed into the final day of the trip, Molloy sits at 5-7 while Franklin Pierce is 9-7.

Game One: FPU 7, Molloy 3
How it Happened
  • Molloy got off to a strong start in the first inning with back-to-back singles from seniors Natalie Moussa and Cheralyn Dusharme.
  • Sophomore Stevie Dabbadie followed with a single up the middle, driving in Moussa to give the Lions an early 1-0 lead.
  • Dabbadie was involved in all three outs in the home half of the second inning, recording a strikeout before helping to turn a double play to end the inning.
  • Junior Emily McGurk led off the third inning with a double to left center. A single from Moussa put runners on the corners and allowed McGurk to swipe home the following play. 
  • After Dusharme worked a walk, freshman Casey Kissinger entered as a pinch runner and scored on a double to left center from Dabbadie to make the lead 3-0 in favor of the Lions.
  • Franklin Pierce took control in the bottom of the third, scoring seven runs on five hits and two errors.
  • Molloy had a runner in scoring position in both the fifth and sixth innings, but were unable to bridge the gap.
Top Performances
  • Dabbadie, Cepeda, and Moussa all recorded two hits, with Dabbadie driving in two runs.
  • McGurk contributed a double, while Dusharme and redshirt sophomore Alexis Montgomery both added a single.
  • Dabbadie started in the circle, pitching 2.1 innings and striking out one batter.
  • Moussa came in for 3.2 innings of relief, also adding a strikeout.
 
Game Two: Molloy 4, FPU 2
How it Happened
  • The Ravens got off to a strong start in the top of the first with a lead off single to second base, and a sacrifice bunt to move the runner into scoring position.
  • An RBI double from Charlit Hartenstein got Franklin Pierce on the board first.
  • Dusharme got things started in the bottom of the second with a lead off single to left center.
  • Freshman Megan Wegel followed with a single to the shortstop.
  • Cepeda scored both runners with a single to left center and advanced to second on a defensive miscue.
  • McGurk's RBI single extended the lead to 3-1 to close out the second inning.
  • A solo shot over the left field fence increased Molloy's lead to 4-1 in the third.
  • Two walks and a single loaded the bases for the Ravens in the top of the sixth. A walk to Andie Anderson cut the deficit to two runs but Moussa was able to limit the damage to just the one run.
  • The Ravens threatened again in the top of the seventh, once again loading the bases but Moussa struck out Lita Vorseth to end the contest.
Top Performances
  • Dabbadie and McGurk each tallied two hits in the effort with McGurk, Cepeda, and Moussa driving in runs.
  • Dusharme and Wegel each added a hit.
  • Dabbie struck out one in five innings, allowing just two earned runs to improve 4-3 on the season.
  • Moussa tossed two innings of relief, striking out two, to record her second career save.
