The East Coast Conference released its weekly awards for indoor track and field, and the Molloy programs had representation with both a Track Athlete of the Week and a Field Athlete of the Week.
Junior
Peter Bagattine earned his first weekly award of the season, Men's Track Athlete of the Week, running a personal-best time in the mile of 4:23.59 at the Wagner College Seahawk Shootout. The mark was good for fifth in the field of 63 runners and bested all Division II competitors. The time is also top in the entire NCAA East Region for the season.
Sophomore
Ava Shepherd was selected as the Women's Field Athlete of the Week, setting personal-bests in both the high jump (1.58m) and triple jump (10.03) on Friday. Her high jump ranks second on the season in both the ECC and the NCAA East Region and placed sixth in the field of 41.Â
Molloy's track and field programs also saw four selected to the league's Weekly Honor Roll for their performances at the Seahawk Shootout: senior
Kathleen Healy, sophomores
Carli Sheiffele and
Quinten John, and freshman
Djurabe Edmond.Â
Healy shattered Molloy's 3000 meter record, running a time of 10:18.04, over eight seconds faster than the previous mark set just last week. The performance earned her sixth among a field of 32 competitors and the time ranks second in the ECC and NCAA East Region thus far. Sheiffele ran to a personal-best time of 5:24.62 in the mile, knocking nearly 20 seconds off her previous best. The mark is good for best in the ECC and fourth in the NCAA East Region this season and had her finish in first among Division II competitors in the race.
John also set personal-bests this past Friday in both the 60 meter (7.14) and 300 meter (36.47) races, with the 60 meter time marking sixth in the ECC. Edmond bested a Molloy record that has spanned six years with a distance of 12.96m in the weight throw. The performance was ninth in the field of 42. On the week. he also recorded a mark of 11.64m in the shot put.Â
