Staten Island, N.Y. - The indoor track and field season kicked off on Friday (Dec. 2) at the Youree Spence-Garcia Invitational, hosted by St. John's University at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.
On the women's side, sophomore
Alaysia Cobb-Rountree ran a personal-best time of 1:04.32 in the 400-meter race. Freshmen
Anne Jeanty (48.12) and Juliette Vega (49.65) debuted in the 300-meter race. Vega also ran a 8.94 time in the 60-meter while Jeanty ran a 11.25 race in the 60-meter hurdles.
In field events, senior
Faith Rousseau had a jump of 1.50 meters in the high jump and a throw of 10.16 meters in the shot put. Sophomore MaryGrace Coll had a jump of 1.40 meters in the high jump and a leap of 10.15 meters in the triple jump.
The men's performances were highlighted by ninth-place finishes in both the 60-meter (7.09) and 300-meter (36.60) for senior
Gianni Macchio. Senior
Juan Arango finished right behind him in the 300-meter at 36.94 while running a race of 7.27 in the 60-meter. Junior
Christian Canela placed fourth in the 400-meter with a time of 51.20.
Freshmen
Anthony Perkins (7.70, 26.04),
Darren Rhooms (7.71, 24.42) and
Angel Bran (7.76, 26.28) each made their collegiate debuts in both the 60-meter and 200-meter races. Freshman
Emmanouil Paravalos made his debut in the 400-meter, running a time of 53.97.
Molloy's track performances were rounded out by a 23.99 200-meter race from sophomore
Jason Ferguson, a 53.35 time in the 400-meter by
Manny Fernandez, and a 2:46.84 race in the 1000-meter from junior
Sean Wilde.
In the field, freshman
Jurrel Hall finished in the top-five in both the triple jump (13.29 meters) and long jump (6.55 meters) while Ferguson had a 6.08 meter distance in the long jump.
The Lions are back in action on Friday (Dec. 8) at the Wagner Seahawk Shootout at Ocean Breeze.
