Box Score Bloomfield, N.J. - The men's basketball team netted a season-high 82 points in a defeat at Bloomfield College this afternoon, falling 91-82. Molloy sits at 0-5 on the season while the Bears improved to 3-1.
How it Happened
- The Bears opened the contest on a 9-2 run.
- Molloy responded with a run of seven-straight points to knot the score, including layups from freshman Rob Matos and graduate students Jalen Rosemond and Bobby Connors.
- Back-to-back three-pointers regained the lead for the home team.
- Trailing by five midway through the first half, freshman Bryce Merchant and junior Billy Reyes responded with triples of their own to bring the Lions within one, 28-27.
- Late in the first half, a layup from Matos and jumper from Rosemond tied the contest at 35, but the Bears ended the half on a 10-5 run to lead 45-40 at the break.
- Molloy came out of the locker room shooting strong to start the second half, chipping away at Bloomfield's lead to within one, 51-50 before once again tying the game with a three-pointer from Rosemond, 53-53.
- After two more ties, the Lions took a four-point lead on field goals from Matos and Connors.
- A nine-point run from Bloomfield put the home team in front, 69-64, with 10 minutes left to play. The Bears would hold onto the lead through the remainder of the contest.
Top Performances
- Matos led the cardinal and white with 24 points, shooting 10-of-15 from the field, and added six assists, three rebounds, and two steals.
- Reyes' 4-of-8 day from long distance helped him to 16 points while Mick Browne recorded 13 points, nine rebounds, two steals, and two assists.
- Rosemond (9) and Connors (8) rounded out Molloy's top scorers six Connors chipping in six assists and seven rebounds and Rosemond adding six boards of his own.
