Flushing, N.Y. - The women's tennis team appeared in the annual Intercollegiate Tennis Association's East Regional Tournament, hosted by Queens College at the USTA National Tennis Center.
In the opening round of singles play, junior
Noor Goyvaerts advanced for the Lions after defeating Victoria Azcona of American International College, 8-6. Junior
Brooke Williams fell to Caterina Federici of Adelphi, 8-1, sophomore
Amanda Oppedisano fell to Yinett Del Leon, 8-0, freshman
Jill Cafaro fell to Oceane Mallevre of Post, 8-0, and junior Hannah Niggemeir fell to Zoe Asterio Correa of Franklin Pierce, 8-1.Â
Goyvaerts then faced Magdalena Hubickova of Southern New Hampshire University, falling 6-0, 6-4 to end Molloy's singles competition in the tournament.
In doubles play, Goyvaerts and sophomore
Camilla Caballero Abreu won their opening round matchup before falling in the second round.Â
The team will return to action on Saturday (Oct. 1) as they face Queens College at 11:00 a.m. in Flushing, N.Y.
