New Castle, Del. - The women's bowling team ran through the bracket on the final day of the Wildcat Division II/III Invitational to earn third place on the weekend. Through 14 matches, the Lions tallied a total pinfall of 2809, averaging 200.64 per game. The maroon and white sit at 26-38 in NCAA play headed into the final tournament before Championship play.
How it Happened
- Friday (Feb. 18) saw a series of five Baker games on the card for the maroon and white. Opening the afternoon 1-2 with a victory over Bloomfield College, 960-774, the Lions scored the two highest scores of the day to earn back-to-back victories to end the first day of action.
- Molloy downed Wilmington by a narrow 969-960 margin, rallying in the final game against the host Wildcats, 214-182. The afternoon ended with a 988-967 victory over Caldwell, including three games of over 200 pins on the way.
- In total, Molloy went 3-2 in the first day, knocking down 4634 pins and in third place, just 37 pins shy of the leader.
- On Saturday (Feb. 19), the schedule turned to traditional play. The Lions had a slow start, falling to both Felician and Daemen.
- On the back of a 203-pin performance from freshman Hannah Sklacki, Molloy topped Chestnut Hill College, 950-873.
- Three members of the maroon and white topped 200 pins, junior Amanda Kreush (211), sophomore Amanda Scarfogliero (215), and Sklacki (201) in a 997-868 defeat of New Jersey City University.
- Sklacki churned out her third-straight 200+ game (204) in loss to Kutztown to close the afternoon. Fellow rookie Jessica Portella also topped 200 with 208 pins in the effort.
- The Lions fell to fifth after a 2-3 record on the traditional portion of the event, but Sklacki and Kreush both finished in the top-25.
- On Sunday (Feb. 20), the championship bracket would determine final standings. Molloy won three-straight best-of-seven matches against league competitors to earn third place.
- Highlighted by exceptional play from Sklacki, Scarfogliero, and junior Allison Burfeindt, the Lions won 4-1 over Felician University.
- With a total pinfall of 1038, the Lions also topped Mercyhurst University, featuring key contributions form junior Cassidy Syrdale.
- In the battle for third against the host Wildcats, the maroon and white stood tall, sweeping Wilmington, 4-0.
Up next, Molloy will compete at the Hawk Flight Invitational on Friday (Feb. 25), hosted by Monmouth University in Hamilton, N.J.
