Box Score Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. – The men's basketball team fell to the Mavericks of Mercy College this afternoon, 78-74. The Lions drop to 7-16 (6-8 ECC), while Mercy improves 4-17 (4-10 ECC) with the win.
How it Happened
- With 15:43 remaining in the half, junior William Muller made a layup to knot the contest at nine.
- The two teams went back and forth over the next three minutes of game time, a free-throw from Mercy guard Garrett Kirkland tied the contest at 16.
- Consecutive three-point baskets from freshman Kenny Lazo and redshirt sophomore Kendell Ogilvie gave Molloy a six point lead, 22-16, with 11:49 remaining in the opening stanza.
- The Mavericks responded with an 11-1 run to take a four point lead, 27-23, with seven minutes remaining in the first half.
- Muller tied the game at 27 following a layup with 4:51 left on the scoreboard.
- Mercy closed the half on a 10-4 run. Molloy trailed 37-31 heading into the locker room.
- The home team began the second half on a 8-2 run extending its lead to 12, 45-33, with over 17 minutes remaining.
- The maroon and white brought the deficit within eight, 47-39, following a jumper from Muller with 15:17 to go.
- Over the next seven minutes of game time, Mercy extended its lead to 16, 66-50, shooting a scorching 80 percent from the field with over eight minutes remaining on the scoreboard.
- Molloy answered quickly, putting together a 12-2 scoring run, highlighted by seven points from Freshman Darren Fergus, to bring the Lions within six, 68-62, with 5:13 left in the game.
- Minutes later, Fergus netted three layups in a 55 second span, to cut the deficit to three, 72-69, with 1:48 to play.
- A pair of free throws from Mercy center Jayden Dewaal pushed the Mavericks lead to seven, 77-70, with 35 seconds to go.
- Junior Frankie Phelan hit a jump shot to bring the Lions within three, 77-74, with two seconds left.
- Mercy hit one free throw to win the game, 78-74.

- Fergus paced the Lions, collecting his first double-double of the season, scoring a game-high 27 points, grabbing a team-high 11 rebounds, and dishing out a game-high six assists.
- Senior Steven Torre netted 14 points and shot 50 percent from three-point range.
- Muller tallied 14 points, grabbed six rebounds, and swiped two steals.
- Lazo scored nine points and shot 50 percent from the field.
