Men’s Basketball Wins Fourth Straight with 79-74 Victory Over Queens College

Box Score Rockville Centre, N.Y. – The men's basketball team pushed its winning streak to four, defeating Queens College, 79-74, Sunday afternoon. The Lions improve to 7-11 (6-3 ECC) with the win while the Knights fall to 6-6 (4-4 ECC).
 
How it Happened
  • Molloy opened the game with four different Lions getting on the score sheet. The Lions led, 11-7, with over 14 minutes to go in the opening stanza.
  • A three-point basket from freshman Matt Lane extended the Lions' lead to seven, 21-14, with 9:38 remaining.
  • The Knights cut the lead down to two, 25-23, following a three-point field goal from Shamar Chester.
  • The road team took a one-point lead, 30-29, following a jump shot from forward Malik Bentinck.
  • The maroon and white concluded the first half on a 10-2 scoring run, highlighted by four points from junior Frankie Phelan. The Lions led, 40-32, heading into the locker room.
  • Senior Steven Torre began the second half with two three-point field goals, pushing the Lions' lead to 14, 48-34, with over 18 minutes to play.
  • The road team battled back, putting together a 17-3 run to knot the game at 51 a piece with 12:36 remaining on the scoreboard.
  • The Lions answered the Knights' run with a run of its own, putting together an 11-2 scoring run to retake the lead, 62-53, with over nine minutes left in the ball game.
  • With 6:48 to play, junior William Muller extended the Lions' lead to 13, 67-54.
  • A 10-2 scoring run from the Knights cut the deficit to five, 69-64, with under four minutes to go.
  • Molloy sank eight foul shots in the final 3:32 to close out the 79-74 victory.

  • Torre paced the Lions with 17 points and pulled down a career-high 11 rebounds.
  • Freshman Kenny Lazo tallied 10 points shooting 5-of-6 from the free throw line.
  • Freshman Billy Reyes netted 10 points, converting three three-point baskets.
  • Freshman Darren Fergus stuffed the stat sheet, scoring eight points, dishing out eight assists, and securing seven rebounds.
