Box Score East Meadow, N.Y. - The women's tennis team opened the 2019 season in a league match against Saint Thomas Aquinas College, falling 7-0. 

How it Happened

• The top doubles tandem of freshman Hannah Niggemeier and junior Sarah Moehrlein played a close 6-4 match in their debuts with the maroon and white.
• In singles play, Moehrlein fell in her first game, 6-1, before playing to a closer 6-4 second game. 
• Senior Montaine Le Goupil-Maier fell 6-0, but responded by winning four games in a 6-4 loss. 
• Niggemeier fell in her contests, 6-2, 6-4. 

Coach's Comments
"We were outplayed by a strong and skillfill STAC lineup," explained head coach Brendan Caputo. "While it wasn't the outcome we wanted, we had three singles matches end in a 6-4 second battle, which is the fighting spirit and positive takeaway we are going to carry into our next match."

Molloy will take on Post University tomorrow (Sept. 8) in Waterbury, Conn. at 1:00 p.m. It will be the third match between the two programs, with the series record sitting at 1-1.
