The women's tennis team will compete in the East Coast Conference playoffs for the first time since the 2012 season, taking on host and top-seed Queens College.
The Lions have continued to build on a successful turnaround from 2018, which saw the program earn its first victory since the 2017 season and its first multi-win season since 2013.
Molloy enters the tournament at 4-5 on the season and 2-3 in league play. The maroon and white have earned shutout victories over East Stroudsburg and the College of Staten Island before sweeping Daemen (5-2) and Roberts Wesleyan (4-3) to clinch their spot.
Freshman
Hannah Niggemeier has topped the maroon and white, picking up a 5-4 singles record. The rookie has spent the majority of the season at #3 singles, but has won matches at both #2 and #4 along the way. Seniors
Samantha Bloecker (4-4) and
Montaine Le Goupil-Maier (4-5) and sophomore
Briana Gonzalez (4-5) have all won four victories at singles play this season.
Niggemeier also is one half of Molloy's most successful doubles pairings, partnering with junior
Sarah Moehrlein for a 4-5 record, all at #1 doubles.
Molloy will take on the top-seeded and undefeated Knights of Queens College. Queens has had a nearly flawless fall season, winning five contests via shutout and two by a score of 6-1. Most recently, however, Queens battled #2 District of Columbia to a 4-3 victory to earn the top-seed at the tournament.
