Box Score Washington, D.C. - The women's tennis team concluded the 2019 season this afternoon at the University of the District of Columbia. The maroon and white fell by a score of 5-2 despite a number of close contests on both the singles and doubles courts. Molloy sits at 4-5 on the season and 2-3 in East Coast Conference play headed into the ECC Tournament as the #4 seed. The Lions await the outcome of UDC vs. Queens College on Monday (Oct. 21).
How it Happened
- The maroon and white were competitive on all three doubles courts, but were unable to secure victories, giving UDC the doubles point.
- The #3 tandem of senior Samantha Bloecker and sophomore Briana Gonzalez fell 6-3 while the tandem of junior Sarah Moehrlein and freshman Hannah Niggemeier as well as senior Montaine Le Goupil-Maier and freshman Kailey Chin each fell 6-2.
- In singles play, Bloecker earned the first point for the Lions by default.
- After dropping the first set, 6-0, Niggemeier responded with a 6-3 second set to force a tiebreaker, eventually earning the victory over Sofia Bellucco.
- Le Goupil-Maier also forced a tiebreaker, but was defeated by Joanna Skrzpczynska.
