Box Score Oceanside, N.Y. - The women's tennis team won its second-straight contest, defeating the Wildcats of Daemen by a score of 5-2 this afternoon from Point Set. The victory is also the Lions' second-straight over Daemen. Molloy improved to 3-4 on the season and 1-2 in East Coast Conference play with the win.
How it Happened
- The teams split the first two doubles matchups with Daemen taking #1 doubles and the tandem of senior Samantha Bloecker and sophomore Briana Gonzalez earning a 6-1 victory at #3 doubles.
- Needing a win at #2 doubles to earn the point, freshman Kailey Chin and senior Montaine Le Goupil-Maier played from behind to take a 6-4 win and put Molloy up 1-0 to start the match.
- Chin also picked up a decisive win at #4 singles 6-0, 6-0.
- At #5 singles, Gonzalez responded with a 6-4, 6-0 victory to give the Lions a 3-0 lead.
- The match would be decided at #6 singles, where Bloecker picked up a 6-2, 6-4 victory.
- Molloy's fifth point came on a victory at #3 singles, where freshman Hannah Niggemeier won in a tiebreaker. The freshman played from behind, dropping the first set 6-4 before responding with back-to-back wins, 6-2, 6-2.
The Lions will return to action tomorrow (Oct. 12) for the team's last home contest of the 2019 season. Molloy will take on Roberts Wesleyan College at 2:00 p.m. at Eisenhower Park. Before the match, the program will celebrate the career of its two seniors,
Montaine Le Goupil-Maier and
Samantha Bloecker.
