Flushing, N.Y. (Sept. 24, 2017) – Molloy's women's tennis team made its annual appearance in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association East Regional Tournament this past Friday (Sept. 22).
The Lions were led by senior
Danielle Bloecker (Oceanside, N.Y.) and sophomore
Montaine Le Goupil-Maier (Oceanside, N.Y.), who each picked up a first-round victory. Bloecker defeated Phoebe Hall of Southern New Hampshire University by a score of 8-2 while Le Goupil-Maier took an 8-1 victory over Lindsay Baum of SNHU. In their qualifying matches, however, Bloecker fell 8-1 to Nunez of Le Moyne while Le Goupil-Maier was downed 8-2 by Linder of the University of the Sciences.
Senior
Christie Catterson (Amityville, N.Y.) and graduate student
Amanda Gaimaro (Lynbrook, N.Y.) each drew byes and advanced straight to the qualifying round. Catterson fell 8-1 to Martin of Concordia before Gaimaro was defeated 8-3 by Castrillon of UDC. Junior
Megan Scali (Garrison, N.Y.) and sophomore
Samantha Bloecker (Oceanside, N.Y.) each fell in their opening matches, 8-2, and 8-0.
The maroon and white had three doubles tandems qualify in Scali/D. Bloecker, S.Bloecker/Catterson and Le Goupil-Maier/Gaimaro, but none advanced to the second day of the tournament.
The Lions will face Jefferson on Friday (Sept. 29) in Philadelphia, Pa. at 12:00 p.m.
