FLUSHING, N.Y. (Apr. 10, 2017)- The Molloy baseball team fell to the Queens College Knights, 8-7, at Hennekens Stadium Sunday afternoon.  The Lions move to 11-17 overall and 6-4 in East Coast Conference play with the loss.
Junior
Elijah Leerdam (Jamaica, N.Y.), freshman
Jake Saltzman (Old Bethpage, N.Y.), and senior
Ryan Dillon (Medford, N.Y.) drove in two runs apiece for Molloy. Â
Sophomore Nick Luciano (Flemington, N.Y.) hit a walk-off single in the ninth inning for Queens, which improved to 8-13 overall and 2-7 in the ECC.
The Lions opened the scoring in the top of the first inning. Senior
Michael Rahn (Sayville, N.Y.) hit a sacrifice fly to right field, which scored senior
Brian Murphy (Elmont, N.Y.).
In the bottom half of the inning, senior Joe Morris (Syosset, N.Y.) hit a two-run home run to put the home team ahead, 2-1.
Molloy tied the score, 2-2, in the fourth inning, after, Leerdam scored Rahn with an RBI single to left field.
The maroon and white went ahead in the sixth inning. Saltzman drilled a two-RBI double to left field to make it 4-2. Later in the inning, Dillon scored Saltzman to increase the lead to 5-2.
In the bottom half of the sixth, the Knights plated four runs to take a 7-5 advantage.
The Lions scored a run in both the eighth and ninth inning on an RBI double by Dillon and an RBI single by Leerdam to knot the score, 7-7.
In the bottom of the ninth, Luciano won the game with a single.
Sophomore
Lucas Burton (Glendale, N.Y.) gave up one run in 0.2 innings of work for his first loss of the season.
Molloy concludes its four-game series with Queens on the road tomorrow (Apr. 10). First pitch is slated for 3:30 p.m.
