Uniondale, N.Y. (Apr. 24, 2017) - The Molloy baseball team recorded 16 hits on its way to a 12-1 victory over the No. 21 Felician Golden Falcons Monday afternoon at the Mitchel Athletic Complex. The Lions move to 16-20 overall with the win.
Senior
Brian Murphy (Elmont, N.Y.) led the team with four hits, three runs scored, and two stolen bases. Freshman
Jake Saltzman (Old Bethpage, N.Y.), senior
Anthony Galanoudis (Farmingdale, N.Y.), and junior
Angelo Navetta (Staten Island, N.Y.) drove in two runs each.
Molloy opened the scoring in the second inning. Senior
Anthony Alberghina (Staten Island, N.Y.) reached on a bunt single, and junior
Elijah Leerdam (Jamaica, N.Y.) Â scored on a throwing error. Senior
Ryan Dillon (Medford, N.Y.) hit a sacrifice fly to center field to make it 2-0. Saltzman made it 4-0 on a two-RBI single to right field.
Felician (27-10) scored in the fifth inning to cut the Lions' lead to 4-1.
But the home team added three more runs in the bottom of the fifth. Navetta drove home Murphy with a single. Later in the frame, senior
Michael Rahn (Sayville, N.Y.) hit a sacrifice fly to score Navetta to increase the lead to 6-1. Leerdam added another run, after he scored on a wild pitch, to bring the lead to 7-1.
In the seventh inning, Navetta tripled down the right field line to score Murphy, and Leerdam singled to left field to score Navetta to make it 9-1.
The Lions capped their day with three runs in the bottom of the eighth. Galanoudis brought home two runs with a single, and freshman
Sean Hogan (East Meadow, N.Y.) hit an RBI single to increase the lead to 12-1.
Redshirt senior
Bobby Kelly (Mineola, N.Y.) threw five innings, giving up one run on four hits, and struck out three batters to improve to 5-1 on the season. Junior
Kevin Hiss (Merrick, N.Y.) threw four scoreless innings to pick up his first save of the year.
Molloy returns to the Mitchel Athletic Complex tomorrow (Apr. 25) when it hosts the University of Bridgeport. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
