UNIONDALE, N.Y. (Apr. 2, 2017) – The Molloy baseball team fell, 10-6, to the University of Bridgeport Sunday (Apr. 2) afternoon. The Lions now sit at 8-15 on the season and fall to 3-2 in East Coast Conference play. Redshirt senior
Michael Rahn (Sayville, N.Y.) led the maroon and white, going 3-for-5 at the plate.
Despite being played at Mitchel Field Athletic Complex, the Knights played host to Molloy, taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. The Lions tied it up in the top of the second on a single from senior
Anthony Alberghina (Staten Island, N.Y.). In the bottom half of the inning, UB made it 2-1 on an error by the Molloy defense.
Molloy put up two runs in the third inning to go up 3-2, as junior
Angelo Navetta (Staten Island, N.Y.) doubled to center field before Rahn singled to score Navetta. The back and forth scoring continued in the bottom half of the inning as Bridgeport tied the contest on a fielder's choice from Dave Egeland (Toms River, N.J.) before taking a 5-3 lead on a double from Daren Grabowski (Berlin, Conn.).
After a scoreless fourth inning, the maroon and white cut the lead to one run on a double from junior
Luciano Morello (Hewlett, N.Y.). The Purple Knights pulled ahead 6-4 in the bottom half of the inning on a solo home run from Zach Burger (Orlando, Fla.). Molloy would once again come within one run in the top of the sixth inning, as junior
Jack McCarty (Huntington, N.Y.) scored on a wild pitch.
In the bottom of the sixth, Burger sent another ball over the fence, scoring three runs to put the Purple Knights ahead 9-5. The Lions brought another run home in the top of the seventh on a double from senior
Brian Murphy (Elmont, N.Y.). UB would add the final run of the game in the bottom of the seventh on a sacrifice fly from Cam Overbaugh (Catskill, N.Y.).

Dominic Danetti (Wantagh, N.Y.) pitched 5.2 innings in the loss, striking out two while redshirt senior
Matt Castaneda (East Meadow, N.Y.) and sophomore
Lucas Burton (Glendale, N.Y.) combined for 2.1 innings in relief.
The Lions conclude their series with UB tomorrow (Apr. 3) at 4:00 p.m. at Mitchel Field.
