UNIONDALE, N.Y. (Apr. 3, 2017) - The Molloy baseball team fell to the University of Bridgeport Purple Knights, 5-4, in 10 innings Monday evening at the Mitchel Athletic Complex. The Lions moved to 8-16 overall and 3-3 in East Coast Conference play.

Bridgeport (10-11, 5-3 ECC) scored the first three runs of the game in the third inning. Junior Cam Overbaugh (Catskill, N.Y.) stole home on a double steal to make it 1-0.  Later in the inning, graduate student Zach Burger (Orlando, Fla.) hit a RBI double to increase the lead to 2-0. Senior Casey McCone (Milford, Conn.) capped the rally with a RBI single.

The Lions started to comeback in the fourth inning. Senior Brian Murphy (Elmont, N.Y.) drove in junior Anthony Alberghina (Staten Island, N.Y.) with a single. Then, senior Kevin Podell (Wantagh, N.Y.) grounded out to score senior Ryan Dillon (Medford, N.Y.) to cut the Purple Knights' lead to 3-2.

UB added an insurance run in the sixth after Stephen DiNicola (Rochester, N.Y.) hit a sacrifice fly to make it 4-2.

Molloy tied the score in the eighth inning. Junior Angelo Navetta (Staten Island, N.Y.) extended his RBI streak to nine games with a two-RBI triple to knot the score at four.

DiNicola doubled down the right field line to lift the Purple Knights to a 5-4 win.

Redshirt senior Bobby Kelly (Mineola, N.Y.) threw 3.2 innings of relief and struck out one batter in the loss. Dillon led the maroon and white with four hits.
