UNIONDALE, N.Y. (Apr. 14, 2017) – The Molloy baseball team fell 3-0 to Mercy College, falling to 12-19 on the campaign and 7-5 in league play. The victory improves Mercy to 8-17 (2-7 ECC).
The Mavericks got on the board in the second inning on a fielder's choice from David Deberardinis (Fishkill, N.Y.)
. The lead would double in the top half of the fifth inning, as Justin Kieso (Frankfort, N.Y.) walked with the bases loaded.
Senior
Anthony Alberghina (Staten Island, N.Y.) reached scoring position in the bottom half of the inning, singling to short before stealing second, but the Lions were unable to drive him in.
Mercy added its final run of the contest in the ninth inning on an RBI single from Randal Mendez (New York, N.Y.). A rally seemed to be brewing in the bottom of the ninth. Junior
Angelo Navetta (Staten Island, N.Y.) walked, advancing to second on a single from junior
Elijah Leerdam (Jamaica, N.Y.). Starting pitcher Matt Nalbone (Islip, N.Y.) added two critical strikeouts to retire the side and earn the victory.
