Uniondale, NY - The sprint football team kicked off the 2026 season at home against the Griffins of Chestnut Hill College, falling 17-7 from Mitchel Field. 

How it Happened

• Both teams had promising plays to start the season. The Griffins would reach the Molloy 24-yard line following an eight-play drive that amassed 58 yards. The Lions' defense held strong, forcing a turnover on downs to take their first possession of the campaign. 
• Senior quarterback Paulie Drummond V completed a 28-yard pass to sophomore Vaughn Washington in the drive, but the offense was unable to get past the middle of the field. 
• Chestnut Hill would break the scoring drought as time expired in the half topping off an 11-play drive with a 47-yard field goal from Brady Reynolds to make it 3-0. 
• The road team would score the first touchdown of the contest as well on their first possession of the second half with Xavier Limehouse rushing three yards before Reynolds' kick made it 10-0. 
• Senior Peter von Schoenermarck rushed four-straight times for a total of 19 yards for Molloy's first touchdown of the season to put the Lions on the board. A successful PAT from junior Timmy Stosko made it a three-point game, 10-7, with just under 11 minutes left to play. 
• The Griffins added a second touchdown late in the fourth quarter, scoring on a 25-yard drive concluded by a two-yard rush from Limehouse to make it 17-7.
• Sophomore Anthony Caliendo completed the first pass of his collegiate career, a 20-yard reception to freshman James Lipetri, but the Lions were unable to get out of the midfield. 
• CHC resumed possession with just under three minutes to play and ran out the clock to improve to 1-0 on the campaign. 

Top Performances

• Drummond went 4-for-14 and 66 yards while Caliendo went 3-for-9 with 27 yards.
• The Lions were led on the ground by 72 yard from sophomore Jalen Gordon.
• von Schoenermarck led the rush with 34 yards.
• Defensively, sophomore Ayden Das had a career-best 12 tackles followed by 10 from graduate student John Zarnowski. 
• Sophomore Chaz Kitsakos was credited with three pass break ups while senior Robby Melendez and sophomore Julian Lopez each recorded a sack.

Molloy will head on the road next weekend at Mansfield University. Kick-off on Saturday (Sept. 26) is slated for 2:00 PM from Mansfield, PA.
