Molloy University Athletics

Mansfield, PA - The sprint football team returned to action this afternoon at Van Norman Field, falling to Mansfield, 34-7. Molloy slipped to 0-2 in the loss while Mansfield improved to 2-0.

How it Happened

• The opening frame would go by with neither team putting any points on the board. 
• Continuing a drive from the end of the first quarter at the Molloy 16 yard line, Nolan Zona was successful for a 31 yard field goal to put the home team ahead, 3-0.
• The Mounties added three touchdowns before the end of the half to lead, 24-0. 
• Early in the third quarter, JoJo Spano's interception returned possession to Molloy.
• A rush and pass to James Lipetri from Mark Kiss put the Lions on the Mansfield side of the field.
• Rushes from Joncarlo Carbone, Jalen Gordon, and Kai Destine set von Schoenermarck up for an 18 yard touchdown pass to Vaughn Washington to put Molloy on the board. 
• Manfield picked up two more scores following lengthy rushes to lead 34-7 after 45 minutes of play. Neither team would score in the final quarter. 

Top Performances

• Anthony Caliendo led the passing game, throwing for 59 yards. 
• Carbone rushed for 29 yards. 
• von Schoenermarck tallied 66 total receiving yards, including a 35 yard long pass. 
• Spano led the defense with eight tackles, six of which were solo, to go with the interception. Marquis Dixon also had eight tackles. 
• Kingston Loucks recorded a sack. 

Up Next 
Molloy will return to Mitchel Field on Friday (October 2) to face St. Thomas Aquinas College at 7:00 PM. The Department of Athletics will recognize the members of the faculty and staff during the game.
