Rockville Centre, NY – It was a packed house at John A. Darcy Field Saturday afternoon, as the Molloy men's soccer team and the Panthers of Adelphi played to a scoreless draw in Rockville Centre. Following the result, the Lions sit at 1-1-2 while the Panthers move to 1-2-2.
How it Happened
- The first shot of the afternoon came from the Panthers in the ninth minute that forced a save from junior goalkeeper Callum Hunt.
- Hunt would come up with another saved in the 16th minute following a free kick header from Samuel Wraith.
- Shots would be hard to come by until the 34th minute when the Lions tallied their first from sophomore Terence Allen.
- Defense dominated the remainder of the first half as neither team would record a shot on goal in the final 11 minutes, sending the contest into halftime.
- The Panthers would maintain most of the possession in the opening 25 minutes of the second half, generating three shots, but none of the attempts would land on target.
- From there, momentum would swing towards the Molloy side of the field as the cardinal and white would begin to dominate possession.
- In the 72nd minute, freshman Massimo Bruno looked to break the seal, but his shot would be denied by Adelphi goalkeeper Andrea Farinella.
- After winning a free kick in the 74th minute, sophomore Jack Veletanga stepped up and fired a shot that cleared the wall but was sent high of the cross bar.
- The road team looked to claim the lead in the 78th minute, but Hunt would be there to deny Arik Landau.
- The final scoring chance of the afternoon came from the Lions in the last 28 seconds. As the Lions sprinted down the field on a counterattack, the ball was played to freshman Massimo Fargnoli, who would have a clear attempt at a header, but the chance sailed over the bar.
