Orangeburg, N.Y. – On the back of the late heroics from junior
Sean Lee, the Molloy men's soccer team earned a 1-0 victory over the Chargers of Dominican Tuesday afternoon. The Lions improve to 2-1-2 on the campaign while the Chargers move to 0-4-1.
How it Happened
- 4:02 into the contest, junior Brennan Murphy saw an opportunity to score, but his shot would be saved by Dominican goalkeeper Miguel Hernandez.
- The cardinal and white tallied a second shot on target in the 12th minute after sophomore Terence Allen's attempt was saved.
- Over the next 34 seconds, Allen and junior Benjamin Bern had their chances blocked within three seconds of one another as the Molloy offense continued to apply pressure.
- For the remainder of the first half, neither team registered a shot on goal as both defenses remained stout, sending the contest into halftime scoreless.
- Dominican wasted no time entering the second half, generating a pair of chances within 30 seconds of each other two minutes in.
- Senior Anthony Martinez would be up for the task, making a pair of saves to keep the Chargers off the board.
- Molloy continued to look for the contests first goal, as freshman Mael Pierre Paul and Murphy saw their scoring chances go wide of target in the 54th and 59th minutes.
- The 65th minute saw the Chargers earn a penalty kick for a chance to take the lead, but Martinez stayed calm in net, making a save on Sid Bigad to keep the contest deadlocked.
- One of the road teams best chances came in the 72nd minute when sophomore Jack Veletanga opened up to fire a shot that rang off the post.
- The pressure from the Molloy offense continued, as Veletanga and graduate student Matt Star both put together scoring chances that would be saved in the 77th and 83rd minutes.
- The Lions were able to break the deadlock with 50 seconds to play. Pierre Paul fired a shot that was saved before Veletanga followed up on the rebound, only to be denied. Lee was there to finish off the rebound and give the Lions a 1-0 lead.
- Dominican's final chance came with six seconds to play, but Martinez once again would spoil it, making a save to send the Lions home the victors, 1-0.
