Colchester, Vt. - A career-best four-goal day for freshman
Sam Cossaro was a bright spot for women's lacrosse in a 11-9 loss at St. Michael's this afternoon from Duffy Field. The loss sets Molloy back to 2-4 on the season while the Purple Knights improve to 1-5.
How it Happened
- The home team won the opening draw and manged to score on its first possession of the afternoon.
- Sophomore Maddy Agostino forced a turnover that would turn into a goal for senior Emma Brazier to knot the score less than a minute later.
- Back-to-back goals from St. Michael's gave them a two-goal lead that they would carry into the second quarter.
- Cossaro would net her first of the afternoon, converting on a free position attempt, to open the second frame. A free position goal from sophomore Ryleigh Zamora followed just 40 seconds later, tying the contest at four.
- St. Michael's would close the half with two goals and carry a 6-4 lead into the break.
- The streak continued into the third quarter, although it would take nearly six minutes of game time before Audrey Conover's goal made it 7-4.
- A timely time out from Head Coach Emily Pepe kick-started a three-goal run for Molloy that tied the game for a third time. Freshman Jenna Italiano scored on an extra-man opportunity before freshman Peyton Naus scored on a free position.
- Cossaro tied the game with a goal after winning the draw to tie the score at seven.
- The home team would respond with two goals in a two and a half minute period, but it was Molloy's turn to fire the final shot of the frame with Cossaro scoring once again on free position to keep the Lions within one, 9-8, headed into the final 15 minutes of play.
