Brazier Shines in Women's Lacrosse Win Over Caldwell

Caldwell, N.J. – The women's lacrosse team topped Caldwell 16-5 at Kiwanis Oval Stadium this afternoon. With the win, the Lions sit at 3-4 on the season while Caldwell drops to 1-2.

How it Happened
  • Caldwell opened the scoring with a man-up goal by Meghan Korzevinski.
  • Freshman Jenna Italiano evened the score one minute later off a pass from sophomore Ryleigh Zamora. Senior Emma Brazier gave the Lions the lead with a goal of her own just 30 seconds later.
  • Freshman Sam Cossaro added a late goal to give the Lions a 3–1 lead at the end of the first quarter.
  • Jessica George scored early in the second quarter for the home team to cut the deficit to one.
  • Braizer and Zamora traded goals before Brazier netted her third to push ahead 6-2.
  • Goals from Cossaro, sophomore Ava Benasutti, and a free position goal from sophomore Cameron Thompson closed out the half with the Lions ahead 9-2.
  • Junior Brooke Grossjung opened the third quarter with a goal for the cardinal and white. Thompson followed with her second goal of the game.
  • Korzevinski scored on another man-up advantage to break the streak, making it 11-3.
  • Zamora and Thompson added goals, both completing a hat trick to give Molloy a 14-3 lead heading into the final frame.
  • Freshman Peyton Naus opened the fourth with back-to-back free position goals in the first four minutes of play.
  • Korzeinski netted her third goal of the contest before Addison Torok capped off the scoring, 16-5.
Top Performances
  • Thompson led the offense as she matched a career-best five points with a career-high four goals and an assist.
  • Braizer (3 goals, 1 assist) and Zamora (2 goals, 2 assists) each recorded four points.
  • Naus finished with two goals and dished out an assist, while Benasutti tallied one goal and two assists.
  • Italiano and Grossjung each contributed one goal and one assist.
  • Cossaro added two goals.
  • Sophomore Katie Kofod recorded an assist, picked up a game-high three ground balls, and caused two turnovers.
  • Zamora controlled a career-high 14 draws.
  • Junior Samantha Heuer made two saves in net, while junior Nicole Schaumloffel added another.
  • The Lions offense out shot the Cougars 43 to 8, with 29 shots being on target.
