Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The volleyball team went 1-1 on the afternoon from Bob Houlihan Court, falling in three sets to #19 Gannon before sweeping Assumption in three sets. The Lions end the opening weekend with a record of 3-1.

How it Happened

• The Golden Knights opened the contest with a statement 9-1 run that the Lions were unable to match. 
• Blocks from seniors Erin Stanley and Ilaria Micol Chiericati paired with an ace from senior Aria Miller would make it 9-4, but that would be as close as Molloy would come in the first set. 
• Kills from Stanley, sophomore Isabella Rios, and freshman Haven Trechter paired with an ace from Rios put the home team in front, 5-1.
• Another kill from Stanley, an ace from junior Hayden Riddle, and blocks from Chiericati and graduate student Julia Zalta made it 8-4. 
• Gannon would come charging back, however, scoring nine of the next 10 points to lead 13-9. 
• Molloy would come within four twice, but Gannon would ultimately prevail.
• The Lions continued to show grit to start the third set, jumping in front 9-2. 
• On the serving of senior Keri Carlin, the Lions saw blocks from Stanley and Chiericati as well as kills from Rios and Stanley. 
• Trailing 15-8, the Golden Knights would score nine of 10 points again to go ahead 17-16 before a kill from Trechter knotted the score.
• Molloy would only manage two more points, kills from Rios and sophomore Franki Kelleher, before Gannon earned the match victory.

Top Performances

• Stanley's seven kills led Molloy. Trechter added six followed by five from Chiericati and four from both Zalta and Rios. 
• Zalta would add 18 assists, three digs, and a block.
• Riddle tallied seven assists to go with three digs and an ace.
• Chiericati led with four blocks while Stanley had three. 
• Trechter and Miller both had eight digs.

How it Happened

• The contest started neck and neck with neither team gaining much of an advantage until four-straight points put the Lions ahead, 11-7. 
• Assumption would take eight of the next nine points to lead 15-12.
• From there, the score would be tied four times, including 18-18. Molloy would put together a 7-2 run to lead 24-20 before a kills from Trechter gave the first set to the Lions.
• The back-and-forth scoring trend continued into the second set, with the score being tied nine times, the latest being at 13. 
• A kill and block from Stanley to go with a block from senior Teresa Moulder put the Lions ahead, 15-13. 
• Assumption would score the next point to come within one, but that was as close as the Greyhounds would cut it. 
• The third set belong entirely to the Lions. Molloy opened on a 7-0 run that saw three-straight kills from Moulder, who also added two blocks. Zalta and Rios added kills to the run.
• Nine of the next 11 points would go the Lions' way to break the game open at 16-2. 
• A four-point run would bring the Greybounds within 10 late in the set, but kills from Moulder, Riddle, and Kelleher paired with an ace from Rios clinched the match for the Lions. 

Top Performances

• Trechter had a career-best 16 kills, attacking at a .419 clip, and added five digs.
• Moulder followed with eight kills to go with four blocks and four digs.
• Stanley and Rios both had seven kills. Stanley led the scoresheet with five blocks while Rios reached double digit digs with 11.
• Miller's 15 digs led the defense.
• Zalta had 21 assists while Ridde added 15.
