Staten Island, N.Y. – The Molloy men's soccer team began East Coast Conference play Saturday afternoon drawing the Dolphins of Staten Island, 1-1, at CSI Outdoor Track and Field Complex. The Lions move to 1-2-3 overall and 0-0-1 in conference play, while Staten Island moves to 1-3-3 and 0-1-1 in league play.
How it Happened
- Molloy controlled the opening 20 minutes totaling three shots, but none of them landed on target.
- Over the next 14 minutes of play Staten Island was able to get off four shots, but none of the four were able to force a save.
- The Lions first shot on goal found the back of the net in the 35th minute. Senior Matt Star found freshman Danu Kinsella Bishop who buried the goal to give the road team 1-0 advantage.
- After neither team would collect a shot on goal in the final 10 minutes of the first half, Molloy headed into halftime ahead, 1-0.
- 28 seconds into the second half, Kinsella Bishop sought his second goal of the contest, but the attempt was denied by Staten Island goalkeeper Luca Schelling.
- 34 seconds later, sophomore Callum Hunt was challenge with a shot in net, but comfortably made the save.
- Staten Island continued to apply pressure to the Molloy goalkeeper peppering with three shots, two of which were saved keeping Molloy in front in the 52nd minute.
- 10 minutes later, the Dolphins had another chance to knot the contest at one, but once again Hunt would spoil the chance.
- In the 75th minute, graduate student O'Neil Dawes had a chance to scored following a corner but put his shot high.
- In the 81st minute Molloy was called for a handball inside the 18-yard box earning Staten Island a penalty kick.
- Dolphins striker Larose Peterson found the back of the net on the attempt to tie the contest at one.
- Dawes had one more opportunity to break the deadlock, but his attempt would be saved in the 84th minute.
- Neither team would muster a shot in the final four minutes, ending the contest in a 1-1 draw.
Top Performances
- Kinsella Bishop netted the first goal of his collegiate career while leading the team with four shots with two coming on goal.
- Star picked up his first assist of the season.
- In goal, Hunt made four saves.
