Rockville Centre, N.Y. – The Molloy men's soccer team picked up its first victory of the campaign, putting together a clean sheet to defeat the Tigers of Holy Family, 2-0, Thursday evening at Tiger field. The Lions improve to 1-0-1 on the young season, while the Tigers move to 0-2.
How it Happened
- The first 20 minutes of action were dominated by Holy Family as the Tigers applied pressure outshooting the Lions, 6-1, but none of the shots forced a save.
- The cardinal and white saw its first shot on target find the back of the net in the 21st minute, after sophomore Benjamin Bern headed in a corner from sophomore Charlie Morgan to get the Lions on the board, 1-0.
- Three minutes later, junior Wilmer Flores looked to add to the lead firing a shot that would cling off the post.
- The next three shots from the home team would get blocked by the Molloy back line, leaving them without a shot on goal through the opening 35 minutes.
- The final scoring chance of the opening half came from the Tigers in the 38th minute, but sophomore goalkeeper Callum Hunt denied the opportunity, keeping the Lions ahead, 1-0, going into halftime.
- Coming out of the locker room junior Steven Flores put together six consecutive shots in a 10-minute span. The junior landed four shots on target, all which were saved keeping the contest at 1-0.
- Flores was finally rewarded in the 59th minute finding the back of the net after junior Wilmer Flores found him to give the Lions a two-goal lead.
- Holy Family would generate seven shots in the final 31 minutes, but only land one on target that Hunt would save as the Lions would go on to complete the shut out, 2-0.
