Men’s Basketball Begins Division II Schedule At Pace

Pleasantville, N.Y. – The Molloy men's basketball team played its first contest against a divison two opponent Friday evening as they traveled to play the Pace University Setters. The contest ended with the Lions falling, 83-57, inside Goldstein Athletics Center. As a result, the Lions move to 0-1 while the Setters improve to 1-0.
 
How it Happened
  • The two teams traded baskets in the opening 7:42 of the contest, but a jumper from sophomore Dylan Kopp gave the Lions a three-point lead, 16-13.
  • The Setters found its stride over the next 2:47 of action putting together a 10-2 run where they shot 83 percent from the floor to take a 23-18 lead.
  • After junior Jared Weakly snapped the run with a pair of free throws, the Setters went on a mini 8-0 run to take an 11-point lead, 31-20, with under four minutes to play in the first half.
  • Pace shot 71 percent from the floor in the final four minutes including draining three-of-four from three-point range to take a 44-26 lead into halftime.
  • In the beginning 2:56 of the second half, the home team increased its advantage to 21, 53-32.
  • With 14:56 to play, junior Darius Coleman converted a three-point play to shrink the deficit 16, 53-37.
  • The Lions would get the contest back within 16 on three occasions in the second half, but that is as close as they would come as the Setters would close the contest shooting 50 percent from the field and go on to clinch the victory, 83-57.
Top Performances
  • Junior Chris Stokel led the squad posting 13 points while shooting seven-of-nine from the free throw line.
  • Coleman collected 12 points and secured five rebounds.
  • Weakly rounded out the top scorers netting 11 points and tying a team-high six rebounds.

The Lions are back in action Sunday, November 16 as they face Adelphi in Pleasantville at Pace University beginning at 1:00 p.m.
