Pleasantville, N.Y. – The Molloy men's basketball team was ultimately unable to overcome a slow start Sunday afternoon, falling to the Panthers of Adelphi, 87-74, inside Goldstein Athletics Center on the campus of Pace University. Molloy now sits at 0-2 in the early goings while the Panthers improve to 2-0.
How it Happened
- After juniors Chris Stokel and Jared Weakly tallied field goals to give the Lions a two-point lead 1:41 into the contest, the Panthers would go on a 12-0 lead to take a 15-5 lead with 15:17 to go in the first half.
- Adelphi continued to insert its dominance putting together another run, outscoring Molloy 15-5 over the next six minutes to take a 30-10 advantage.
- The Panthers maintained a 20-plus point lead throughout the remainder of the first half ultimately taking a 58-27 lead into halftime.
- The cardinal and white would shoot an efficient 52 percent from the field in the second half, but the deficit would be too much to overcome as the Panthers would maintain at least a 20-point lead for over 17 minutes of second half action ending the contest the victors, 87-74.
Top Performances
- Junior Darius Coleman totaled a team-high 17 points while shooting 50 percent from the floor.
- Junior Bryce Merchant collected 16 points, tallying eight points from the foul line.
- Sophomore Dylan Kopp added 12 points in 25 minutes off the bench while Stokel rounded out the top scorers with 11 points
