How it Happened
  • The match started promising for the Lions, who took an early 4-1 lead following two kills from junior Erin Stanley and one from both graduate student Julia Zalta and freshman Haven Trechter.
  • The Owls promptly responded with a run of six points to lead, 7-4.
  • The score would be tied six times, including 15-15, before three-straight points that saw back-to-back service aces put the visitors in front by three. The lead was too much for the Lions to come back from and granted the first set to SCSU.
  • The Owls led for the first third of the second set before a 7-1 run put Molloy in front, 13-11.
  • SCSU quickly regained the lead and seemed poised to take the second set. Molloy responded with a five-point run to lead 22-20.
  • The Owls were presented with set point, leading 24-23, but a kill from senior Teresa Moulder knotted the score. Back-to-back kills from Stanley gave the set to the Lions.
  • The back and forth nature continued into the third set with neither side establishing much of an advantage.
  • The teams found themselves tied at 21 before back-to-back kills from Ceci Carter gave the Owls the necessary two-point advantage that they continued through the remainder of the set.
  • SCSU jumped in front 9-4 to start the final set before Molloy responded with a 7-2 run to knot the set at 11.
  • The game would be tied five more times and as late as 19-19-. However, a four-point run from the visitors would create too big of a deficit for the Lions to overcome.
