Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Volleyball Bests Robert Wesleyan, 3-0

Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The volleyball team improved to 4-0 in East Coast Conference play after this afternoon's three set sweep of the Redhawks of Roberts Wesleyan University. The Lions sit at 11-5 on the season overall with the victory. Roberts Wesleyan fell to 1-15 (1-2 ECC).

How it Happened
  • The Redhawks led to start the contest before three-straight points including a kill from freshman Haven Trechter made it 8-7 Lions. 
  • Graduate student Julia Zalta and sophomore Isabella Rios both had back-to-back kills to increase Molloy's lead to 12-8.
  • The visitors would come within two on multiple occasions before a lengthy rally of six points, including three kills from senior Ilaria Micol Chiericati, made it 21-13, a lead that the Lions carried through the end of the set.
  •  RWU opened the second set with a 7-1 rally. Molloy responded by taking five of the next six points including aces from both Rios and senior Aria Miller to come within two.
  • A 14-3 run regained a significant lead for Molloy, 21-13. Along the way the Lions saw three kills from both Zalta and Rios, two from Chiericati, and aces from both Chiericati and Trechter. 
  • The home team closed the set with four-straight points to lead 2-0.
  • Two kills and a block from senior Teresa Moulder helped the Lions jump in front, 6-2, to start the final set.
  • The Redhawks remained within striking distance before a 7-2 run gave the visitors a 15-13 lead.
  • Kills from Moulder and Trechter tied the contest at 16. 
  • The game would be tied six more times, including 22-22, before three-straight kills from Trechter and junior Erin Stanley sealed the set and the match for the Lions.
Top Performances
  • Rios paced the Lions with 10 kills and added seven digs. 
  • Stanley followed with nine kills to o with two blocks.
  • Chiericati and Trechter both tallied eight kills and an ace. Trechter and Miller both led in the back row with nine digs. 
  • Miller also added two aces as did Zalta, who added 22 assists, six kills, four digs, and two blocks.
  • Junior Hayden Riddle had 15 assists to go with four blocks. 
  • Moulder also had six kills and added two blocks. 
Up Next
The Lions remain in Rockville Centre and will face St. Thomas Aquinas College on Wednesday (Oct. 15) at 7:00 p.m.
