Rockville Centre, N.Y. – As they began their home stretch of ECC games, the Molloy men's soccer team picked up a point Wednesday evening drawing with the Knights of Queens College, 1-1, at John A. Darcy Field. As a result, the Lions sit at 2-5-6 overall and 1-1-4 in East Coast Conference play, while the Knights move to 10-2-3 overall and 5-0-2 in league play.
How it Happened
- In the seventh minute, the Knights collected its first shot on goal after Tommy Wagner connected on a header that forced sophomore goalkeeper Callum Hunt to make a save.
- The first shot on goal for Molloy came in the 19th minute after sophomore Benjamin Bern attempted a header that was by Queens goalkeeper Thanasis Shehadeh.
- Knights forward Miguel Soto Gonzalez threatened to get on the scoreboard in the 31st and 34th minute, but both chances would be denied by Hunt who came off his line to deny the chance on the right side of the box on both occasions.
- Junior Aidan Kolbe attempted to get the Lions on the board in the 40th minute with a header off a free kick, but the attempted was comfortably saved.
- The road team generated two scoring chances in the final minute of the first stanza, but Hunt would make one save and watch the other sail high as the game went into halftime scoreless.
- The first 15 minutes of the second half was an aggressive back and forth with neither team collecting a shot on goal.
- The Lions struck in the 62nd minute after sophomore Brennan Murphy found the back of the net from straight away to put Molloy in front, 1-0.
- The lead was short lived as Queens was able to knot the contest at one after Bradyn Brown headed in a shot following a corner in the 68th minute.
- The 73rd minute saw senior Matt Star connect on a header that forced the Knights goalkeeper to lay out and make a diving save to keep the contest tied.
- 13 minutes later, Kolbe streaked down the left side and into the 18-yard box to fire a shot, but once against Shehadeh denied the chance.
- The road teams final shot attempt game in the 87th minute when Bradyn Brown fired a shot that forced Hunt to make a tricky save.
- With 10 seconds to play, Kolbe found space and attempted the game winner as time ticked down, but his shot would go wide ending the contest in a 1-1 draw.
