Rockville Centre, N.Y. - In a battle between the top two teams in the East Coast Conference, the volleyball team came up short this afternoon, falling to Mercy 3-0. The loss puts the Lions behind Mercy at 5-1 in league play and 12-7 on the season at the midway point in the conference slate. Mercy improved to 11-3 (6-0 ECC).

How it Happened
- The Lions led early in the contest with service aces from graduate student Julia Zalta and sophomore Isabella Rios paired with kills from Rios, junior Erin Stanley, and freshman Haven Trechter.
- The Mavericks worked their way back before a seven-point rally gave the visitors a 14-11 lead.Â
- Molloy would come within two but would never regain the lead.
- A 10-2 run in the second set put Mercy ahead 15-5 that was also too much for the Lions to overcome.
- The score would be tied five times in the first 16 points of the third set, but three-straight points gave the Mavericks a 10-8 advantage. Molloy would seem on the cusp of tying again on multiple occasions, but Mercy ended with a 7-2 run at the end to take the victory.
Top Performances
- Stanley led Molloy with seven kills and added five digs.
- Trechter also had five digs to go with six kills.
- Rios had both five digs and five kills.
- Zalta, seniors Aria Miller and Keri Carlin, as wel as junior Hope Carolan each added four digs.Â
- Zalta tallied two aces to go with 18 assists.Â
