Rockville Centre, N.Y. – A late second half goal from the opponent halted the Molloy men's soccer team Tuesday evening as they fell, 2-1, to the Owls of Southern Connecticut State at John A. Darcy Field. As a result, the Lions move to 1-5-5 on the campaign, while the Owls improve to 6-2-3.
How it Happened
- The first shot of the game came from Lions freshman Cesar Chavez who had his attempt saved in the ninth minute.
- Molloy generated a top chance in the 10th minute. Senior Matt Star put a shot on target that beat the Owls goalkeeper, but a member of the opposition at the goal line denied the chance to keep the contest scoreless.
- In the 28th minute Southern Connecticut made its first shot on target count. After a deflected shot found the foot of Jake Novoshelski who finished to put the visitors in front, 1-0.
- Seven minutes later, junior Wilmer Flores sent a pass from the left flank into the 18-yard box that found graduate student Danu Kinsella Bishop who blasted it into the back of the net to knot the contest at one.
- The road team nearly took the lead in the 39th minute. A header attempt ended up being cleared away by a member of the Molloy defense at the goal line and sophomore Callum Hunt secured a save on the rebound to keep the game tied.
- Neither team would register a shot on goal for the final six minutes of the first stanza, sending the game into halftime tied at one.
- 11 minutes into the second half, the Owls generated a chance to take the lead, but Hunt would be there to make a save.
- In the 66th minute junior Aidan Kolbe put together a full head of speed down the right side to line up a shot, but the attempted sailed wide of target.
- The 73rd minute saw Southern Connecticut State take a 2-1 lead, after Yussif Mohammed snuck a shot past Hunt on the left side.
- The cardinal and white would be held without a shot until the 89th minute. In its final attempt to tie the game, Hunt came to join the offense to add another player to the offense attack. The corner kick attempt would find the head of Hunt, but the header would go high of the cross bar as the game would end with Southern Connecticut the victors, 2-1.
Top Performances
- Kinsella Bishop netted his eighth goal of the season. The graduate student has now scored in each of his last six games, including two multi-goal performances.
- Flores picked up his third assist of the season.
- In goal, Hunt made two saves.

Molloy will travel to Western New York for an East Coast Conference matchup Saturday, October 18 at Daemen. The two squads are set to kick off at 2:30 p.m.
