Sprint Football Falls at Chestnut Hill

Conshohocken, Pa. - The sprint football team fell to the Griffins of Chestnut Hill College this evening from AA Garthwaite Stadium, 41-7. The loss sets the Lions at 1-3 on the season while Chestnut Hill improves to 3-1.

How it Happened
  • The Lions' defense held strong in the Griffins' only possession of the first half.
  • Chestnut Hill started the drive at the Molloy 45 yard line. Three lengthy rushes set the home team in the red zone, but the defense turned them away to keep the game scoreless.
  • The ball remained in the possession of the Lions for the remainder of the first quarter with freshman Ryan Downes rushing for 29 yards. Freshman quarterback completed two passes in the drive and got the visitors to the Chestnut Hill 22 yard line before an interception gave the home team the ball back to start the second quarter.
  • The resulting drive was highlighted by a 45 yard pass from Anthony Cancallare to Aiden Neff to put the Griffins at the 10 yard line. The pair connected for a touchdown shortly after and Brady Reynolds' kick was good to make it 7-0.
  • The Lions were able to return to the red zone in the next possession with sophomore Marquis Dixon rushing for 10 yards, but the team was unable to get into the end zone.
  • With 2:46 on the clock, the Griffins put together a nine-play drive that resulted in a touchdown pass to Ronnell Wheeler. Sophomore Joseph Spano blocked the point after touchdown to keep the score at 13-0.
  • Chestnut Hill scored on the first drive of the second half on a six yard rush from Xavier Limehouse to make it 20-0.
  • The home team would add two more touchdowns to start the fourth quarter to set the score at 34-0.
  • Spell and Dixon combined for 20 yards before Spell's pass to freshman Vaughn Washington got the Lions into the red zone.
  • The freshman ran the ball 21 yards for his first career touchdown and got the Lions on the board. Sophomore Timmy Stosko's kick made it 34-7.
  • The home team rounded out the scoring with a touchdown in their final possession to make it 41-7.
