Molloy Mourns the Passing of Dr. Robert Cincotta

Molloy is saddened to learn about the passing of Dr. Robert Cincotta, the founding head coach of the women's bowling program. Cincotta was an enthusiastic champion for his student-athletes and truly embodied the mission of Molloy Athletics in his commitment to the development of young individuals as people, students, and athletes in that order. Molloy Athletics mourns the loss of his passion for his sport, his student-athletes, and our Molloy family and sends our deepest condolences to his family in this difficult time.

"The Molloy family is deeply saddened by the passing of Bob," said Director of Athletics Susan Cassidy-Lyke. "His dedication, professionalism, and vision as a coach, mentor, and colleague highlighted his time at Molloy. He always had the best interest of Molloy and its student-athletes at the forefront. Bob worked hand in hand with former East Coast Conference Commissioner Bob Dranoff to sponsor bowling on the conference level. When it was determined that women's bowling would be added at Molloy, there was only one name in mind to lead our program and that was Bob Cincotta. The strong foundation he developed for this program is one that will serve us well into the future. On a personal note, I always appreciated his genuine interest in the success of everyone in the department."

Under Cincotta's guidance, the women's bowling program at Molloy made immediate improvements from its inaugural season in 2015-16. The 2016-17 team finished .500 in NCAA play, won five United States Bowling Congress tournaments, and saw multiple student-athletes receive national ranking. A testament to Cincotta's vision and steadfastness, the program improved year after year, receiving national rankings in polls done by the NTCA and NCBCA, competing deep into East Coast Conference Tournaments, qualifying for USBC Sectionals, and earning All-Conference selections.

The achievement Cincotta was most proud of, however, had nothing to do with win/loss records or rankings. In his time, Cincotta supported dozens of student-athletes in their endeavors to start their professional lives as college graduates. The program celebrated its first-ever graduating class in 2019-20 and was a highlight of his coaching experience here at Molloy.

Prior to Molloy, Cincotta spent decades coaching young adults at Adelphi University, founding their program in 2006 and winning a Northeast Conference Championship in 2013 and at Nassau Community College, where he led nearly 60 individuals to All-Academic selections. Cincotta also served the Hempstead Public School for 30 years as a teacher, coach, and athletic director.

Despite departing Molloy ahead of the 2021-22 season, Cincotta's impact remained a strong force in Molloy's women's bowling culture. He continued to be an avid supporter for the Lions and remained a mentor to current coach, Ian Parisi.

"Dr. Cincotta was a driving force behind countless lasting relationships amongst teammates and beyond," said Parisi. "His keen and continued interest in the program after his departure was synonymous with his attention to the ongoing academic and professional journeys of all who called him coach. His passion, advocacy, guidance, mentorship, and dedication will be sorely missed."
