Hooksett, N.H. – The Molloy men's soccer team began the 2024 season at the Southern New Hampshire Penmen Thursday evening. The Lions dropped the opener, 5-0, at Mark A. Oullette Stadium
How it Happened
- The home team generated the first two chances of the contest in the eighth and eleventh minute with a pair of shots that went wide.
- The Penmen continued to press forward with another scoring opportunity in the 17th minute, but for the third time the shot would miss target.
- SNHU tallied its first shot on goal in the 29th minute, but junior John Takach would deny the chance to keep the game scoreless.
- Southern New Hampshire broke through seven minutes later, tallying the first goal of the contest to go in front, 1-0.
- With 40 seconds to play in the first half, sophomore Steph Maurice found space for a scoring chance but was denied by SNHU goalkeeper Preston Neal. The game went into halftime with the Lions behind, 1-0.
- In the second half, Southern New Hampshire would score four unanswered goals, hold the Lions to one shot, and go on to clinch the victory, 5-0.
Top Performances
- Maurice and junior Santi Vasquez tallied one shot each with Maurice landing the lone shot on goal.
- In goal, Takach made four saves.
